Kalatzin

On the Sisters of Interstate 405

On a little oasis of soil
In a land full of concrete
There’s a little succulent flora
That sits peacefully as stone.

I wonder how long it’s been
Since its birth from planted seed
And if it’s yet grown tired of counting
All the colors of the cars.

Is it full of carbon
Like its bulbous leaves suggest?

Is it but so joyful ‘cause its meals are
Guaranteed?

You chubby little thing,
You must be so refreshed.

I am not so lucky
With the lungs inside my chest.
